Core Web Vitals are Google's measures of how a page feels to use. LCP measures loading and should be 2.5 seconds or less. INP measures how fast the page reacts to clicks and taps and should be 200 milliseconds or less. CLS measures layout shift and should be 0.1 or less.
Why they matter
They're part of Google's page experience signals, and they track whether people stay. A page that jumps around or ignores taps loses people no matter how good it looks.

Google uses real Chrome visits at the 75th percentile, over 28 days. You'll see them in Search Console and PageSpeed Insights. Lighthouse gives lab numbers, which help with diagnosis but aren't what Google ranks on.
Where to start
LCP is usually the hero image. INP is usually too much JavaScript. CLS is usually images, ads, embeds or fonts without reserved space. My LCP guide covers the first one in detail.
Questions
What replaced FID?
INP replaced First Input Delay as a Core Web Vital in March 2024.
Do Core Web Vitals matter on desktop?
Yes, but mobile is usually worse and is what most visitors use.
Can a Webflow site pass?
Yes. Webflow's hosting is fast. Problems usually come from images, scripts and embeds added on top.
