What is CRO?

CRO, conversion rate optimization, is getting a bigger share of your visitors to do the thing you want, like book a call, send an enquiry or buy. You measure what people do, change the messaging, layout, calls to action and speed, then keep the changes that work.

How it works

It starts with measurement. GA4, heatmaps and recordings from a tool like Hotjar, and Search Console. That shows where people come from and where they leave. Changes come from what the data shows, and get tested before they stay.

What usually moves the number

A clear promise above the fold. One main call to action per page. Real proof near the top. Shorter forms. Something useful to interact with, like the solar calculator I built for Renesource. And a page that loads fast.

CRO and SEO

SEO brings the right people in. CRO turns more of them into customers. Doubling your conversion rate does the same for leads as doubling traffic, and it's often cheaper.

Questions

What's a good conversion rate?

It depends on the industry and the action. Compare against your own baseline and improve on that.

Do I need a lot of traffic?

For formal A/B tests, yes. With less traffic you can still fix the obvious problems you see in recordings and analytics.

Does a beautiful site convert better?

Design builds trust, which helps. But clarity and speed do most of the work.
